How to Landscape a Doll House
by Peter
I am building a dollhouse. The scale is 1" to 1'.
I would like to add trees and shrubs, maybe some old-fashioned items (horse cart) around the house all in scale with the dollhouse.
What do you recommend?
SMH Response: I for one prefer scratch building foliage but since you are not trying to create a forest buying them may make more sense.
Most local hobby shops with a model railroading section can provide you with the ingredients to build your own trees and shrubbery.
This place is right up the street here in New Hampshire and they have a good supply of 1”=1’ scale trees and shrubs. There is a lot of information on their website earth n tree.
I don’t know the height of your dollhouse, but I would try to keep the trees to half to three quarters of that height so as not to overpower the work you have put into the doll house.
As far as a horse and buggy there are a few on eBay but they seem to be pretty pricy. There are also a few at Amazon.com. Again, I’d take a stroll through your local hobby shop to see if there is a kit for a buggy. One name that comes to mind is Breyer horses.
It has been many years since I built anything in 1”=1’ but I am sure Kari at Earth and Tree Miniatures can be a real help.
