Review of Revell's HMS Victory Kit

It has been a while since I assembled a plastic ship model (about 30 years ago) as a diorama of the Cutty Sark, but Revell-Germany's model of the HMS Victory (kit #05408 circa 2003) probably dates back to well before that. The plans, copyrighted 1959 will produce a fine looking model at 1/225 scale.

My main criticism and that of many others is that guns on the upper deck are molded onto the deck as are rope coils and other deck furniture.

On the lower two gun decks SOME gun ports are open, with separate guns on carriages to be installed on platforms like the small Constitution kit. There is a full upper gun deck, with molded in carriages but barrels to be installed separately.

Vacuum-formed sails and rigging thread are included. Nice engraved hull and copper plating detail.

The ratlines are pre-formed black plastic so they are slightly over scale compared to the rigging thread which is included.

Overall, I would give the model a :"Good" rating and priced in the range of $25-$30, it is a good deal.

This version of the HMS Victory can be built by anyone age 10 and above.
