Radio Control, or RC adds a new dimension to almost any form of modeling with a no-strings-attached form of animation that brings the competitive nature of racing and even warfare to the Lilliputian world of scale modeling.
Planes and cars driven by RC radios have been with us for some time, but as large as these two venues are, they aren't to be outdone by other lesser known modes of motion. Imagination is the only limiting factor,
Google brings a lot to light both in the US and from around the world. Suddenly radio controlled sailboats are being passedby RC land yachts capable of 30 miles per hour. A model oarsman takes his RC directions to row with just his right oarwhile model battleships down under battle to the sinking with CO2 powered B-B guns.
For any form of RC modeling, online you will find a forum of rabid RC jockeys ready with tips, techniques and help forthose newly seduced by the radio waves.
DIY is well understood in this hobby but it doesn't mean you have to Do It BY Yourself.
Here is a cross-section of radio-controlled hobbies as depicted on YouTube.
Over the next few months we'll explore as many as we can find proponents to interview. Most will start right here, but the first, a look at RC sailboating will be in the May 15th issue of the Scale Modeling Tips and Tools Monthly.
