James Cameron's Final Word

Titanic Parable says its iceberg doom
is today's climate change issue

James Cameron said, "Part of the Titanic Parable is of arrogance, of hubris, of the sense we are to big to fail. Within that human system on board that ship if you want to make it a microcosm of today's world, you have different classes 1st class, 2nd class and 3rd class.

Well,  in our world right now you have the developed nations andthe undeveloped nations. You have the starving millions who are going to be most effected by the next iceberg we hit which is climate change.

We can see that iceberg ahead of us right now, but we can't turn because of the momentum of the system, business momentum, there are too many people making money out of the system the way it works right now.  Frankly, those people have their hands on the levers of power and aren't going to let go.

Until they do, we aren't going to be able to miss that iceberg and we're going to hit it. When we hit it, the rich are still going to have acces to food, to arable land and to water.

It's going to be the poor, the steerage that will be impacted. It's the same with the Titanic. I think that is why the story of the Titanic will continue to fascinate because it is a perfect little encapulization of the world  and all social spectra.

But until our lives are really put at risk, we don't know the moment of truth, we don't know what we would do and that's my final word.

We can see that iceberg ahead of us right now, but we can't turn because of the momentum of the system, business momentum, there are too many people making money out of the system the way it works right now.  Frankly, those people have their hands on the levers of power and aren't going to,let go.

Until they do, we aren't going to be able to miss that iceberg and we're going to hit it. When we hit it, the rich are still going to have acces to food, to arable land and to water.

...and that's my Final Word."
