Scale Conversion Chart Transposes "Live" Measurements
While your are on the subject of dimensions
Any form of modeling is dependant upon the proper conversion of real
"live" dimensions to the scale you are working in. This particular
conversion chart was put together for the International Plastic Modeler's
Society and it provides modelers with the ability to scale about any
object accurately.

Begin Your Scratch Project With Sketch UpFace it, scaling a 3-D object such as a box car from HO to N just isn't going to happen. Once it has been rendered into an HO box car, you can't just let out some of the air and watch it zoom down to an N Scale version. The same holds true whether you are talking about an airplane, a boat or a race car. In order to re-create an object such as a box car, you need to reduce it to a paper sketch and here's where the fun begins. Google's Sketch-up is a computer program that will let you "scratch sketch". It is a free 3D modeling program which allows you to create structures such as homes or office buildings, box cars or steam engines and cars or boats. When I realized this was much simpler than using a CAD program to create a building plan when Sketch-up first came out, I was hooked. It is a fun program to play with and I have learned to render a set of building plans used to scratch build a small building. You've got to try it.
